Email Account
All SEO packages include the creation of a company-branded Gmail address for link building email outreach e.g. kikamarketing@gmail.com.
However, based on SEO best practices, using free email providers is not the preferred method for sending out link building emails. For one, people trust website-based email addresses more than Gmail ones. For the other, the vast majority of email spam comes from @gmail.com and @outlook.com style emails, and as such, any emails that we send out are far more likely to end up in the recipient’s spam folder.
Instead, it is recommended to use a custom email address from a branded domain e.g. jen@kikaseo.com. The client’s main domain is never used for this purpose as it can be flagged as SPAM and affect its email reputation score. Since setting up a custom email address is quite complex, we provide this service at an additional cost. The only time we will request the client to create an SEO-focused email address on their domain is when we are creating quality emails that are sent to high authoritative websites.
The following sections outline the process we undertake for creating a basic Gmail address and a custom email address.
Option 1: Basic Gmail Creation
- Create a company-branded Gmail address e.g. kikamarketing@gmail.com. Make sure to configure the email settings so it includes the company’s persona name e.g. Jen Northfax. This is in case the reader decides to check into the email sender’s personal credibility.
- Add email address to Semrush Link Building Tool Refer to Semrush’s kb article on Connecting an Email account.
- Configure email templates on Semrush Link Building Tool to include an email signature with the persona’s name, job title and contact details.
Option 2: Custom Email Creation
- Purchase a branded domain name in line with the company’s name e.g. www.kikaseo.com or based on the company’s service/product offering e.g. www.digital-marketing-vancouver.com. This can be purchased on a new Namecheap account or on the client’s existing hosting provider account.
- Redirect the domain name to an existing landing page hosted on the client’s main website e.g. homepage, a converting web page or a custom landing page. This is in case the reader decides to check up on the email sender’s company credibility.
- Create the company’s persona email address e.g. jen@kikaseo.com and configure settings to include the persona’s name e.g. Jen Northfax. This is in case the reader decides to check into the email sender’s personal credibility, for instance, on LinkedIn.
The email needs to be set up on Google G Suite, Outlook, Office 365 or Exchange Online as these are the only email service providers currently supported by Semrush.
