It’s important to understand how the client is currently performing against their competitors so that we can develop better ideas and strategies. This means identifying who their top competitors are, seeing the keywords that bring them the most traffic and looking into their strengths and weaknesses.
INSTRUCTION:
- Based on the plan that our clients’ selected, identify the top competitors in their industry that are using SEO successfully. We may select competitors that are industry leaders or smaller brands – as long as they use SEO to grow their business.
- Try to identify their core message and the “thing” that each competitor is known for, the unique element that makes them stand out.
- List the types of content they produce and how often they post. Also make note of the calls to action used in each type of content.
- List all the online marketing programs where they are active. Make note of how much website traffic, social media followers they have and how often they post updates.
- Use Semrush’s Competitive Research toolkits to locate existing keyword gaps between the client and their competitors that we could target in their SEO campaign.
